Wonder Woman Elgon: Our Story

It is incredible how one small idea can grow into something truly special and since our founding in 2021, we have been proud to be the Mt. Elgon community’s  Women Empowerment Non-Profit Organisation. Wonder Woman Elgon was born out of our founder's lived reality, which is with no doubt one that many adolescent girls and young women are at risk of or/and have experienced. Experiencing sexual violence was one that greatly shaped Chepkurui's life and it is the main reason Wonder Woman Elgon is what it is today.

 

We campaign and champion for our girls and women who have experienced or are at risk of Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) and  empower them to advance their Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR). Women and girls in our community live very nuanced realities that are determined by their multiple identities, which is why we believe in using an intersectional approach while engaging with them. Our  foundation is rooted in the belief that we all have an inherent responsibility to make a meaningful difference for women and girls in the Mt. Elgon region. With a variety of projects in the pipeline, our volunteer staff is mainly made up of girls who grew up in Mt. Elgon and have first hand knowledge of  the community , we harness our skills and resources to successfully achieve our goals.
